1. Do you have beginners' classes?Classes are all mixed ability, so there are no pure beginners' classes, however beginners are always welcome. Where there are only a few students who are total beginners or relative newcomers, they are paired with experienced students to cover fundamentals, so that they can learn at a more suitable pace. If there are many newcomers, the entire class starts with fundamentals or more simple drills / applications, and the more advanced students may be shown how to progress the aspects of the lesson, so that everyone gets the most they can out of the class. This arrangement results in newer students benefitting from the experience of the older students, and progressing more quickly as a result. The older students are always happy to teach new students. Classes are also "split" sometimes, to form a beginners group, and an intermediate / advanced group. This depends on space, the content of that evening's class, and the students in attendance. 2. Do I have to book in advance? No, just turn up and introduce yourself. 3. Can I come along and just watch a class? You're welcome to come along and watch if you want, though you're better off taking part in the classes so you can feel for yourself if they're what you're looking for, instead of having to guess by watching. 4. What should I wear to class?Loose, comfortable clothing is a must. Modern sports / gym wear would be appropriate. 5. Do I need to bring any equipment? For Wing Chun, no equipment is required. For Rapid Arnis, nothing is required initially, however you will eventually want to buy you own sticks etc. to use. 6. Do I need to learn Wing Chun before Rapid Arnis? No, Wing Chun isn't a requirement for Rapid Arnis, although it's fair to say that it does help with learning the empty hands parts of Arnis, just because the systems are similar in that regard. 7. Are gradings / belts available?Yes. Our Wing Chun organisation uses sashes instead of belts, but the idea is the same. For Rapid Arnis, belts are used, and gradings are carried out in accordance with the Rapid Arnis International regulations. |
